Here is how you get around this problem. Try using this command. Make sure you know your root password.
sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
Type in the password if prompted. Edit the host file and save and close it by using control + o and control + x respectively. To flush the DNS cache, type in dscacheutil -flushcache

Few new things in Need For Speed SHIFT compared to NFS Underground are:

• Automatic braking
• Adjustable accelerometer sensitivity
• More cars
• The CPU is much more smarter and harder to beet now
• No Hot Pursuits
• Gameplay appers a lot slow with slower cars, but as you move to the pricier, better cars, you are then able to feel the speed.
